Azia’s First Birthday!
I am a little late posting this but I thought I should give you all some birthday pics of our little angel. On January 23rd, 2008 our little Azia-lynn turned ONE! She still isn’t walking but she is saying a few words. She says “Bear”, “Ear”, “Eye”, and “Boo” as well as a few others as well as her own name. She gives hugs and kisses to everyone and everything. She had a great birthday. Here are the pics:

Azia’s surgery and recovery
Well I know it has been a while but I am sure you all know how crazy life can be with toddlers! I will dedicate this update to Azia’s surgery and recovery. October 9th, 2007 Azia was scheduled for a surgery called a CVR/FOA (Cranial Vault reconstruction / Frontal Orbital Advancement) to correct her metopic craniosynostosis. I think the easiest way to tell you about it is to copy and paste her story from the craniokids website we belong to. It’s kinda long but worth the read I promise.
Azia-lynn’s Story
John and I had been married for 6 months when we decided it was time to expand the family. I got pregnant right away and we were very excited. We decided to find out the sex of the baby and were delighted to find out we were expecting a little girl. We chose the name Azia-lynn. Azia just popped into my head (we found out later it means Strength) and Lynne is my middle name as well as my mother and sister’s middle name (I spelled it without an ‘e’ like my mother’s). I had a very uneventful pregnancy and I started having contractions about 8 days before my due date. My water broke at 3am on the 22nd and Azia was born at 5:10pm on the 23rd of January 2007. It was a long labour because she was turned the wrong way and was stuck under the pubic bone. When Azia was born we were so relieved. She was the most beautiful thing we had ever seen…she had sweet delicate features and a ton of dark hair. She was no tiny thing; 8 lbs 15oz and 21 inches long and was born on her original due date (before they changed it) - 6 days before the modified one. Everything seemed to be fine. She had a swollen bump on her forehead with a bruise on it but they said that was where her head had been pressed against the pubic bone and it would be gone in a couple of days.
The first time we knew something was wrong was when she was 24 hours old and the Pediatrician came to check her out. She was concerned because she could hear a heart murmur but she also mentioned that the swelling on Azia’s head didn’t seem to be going down yet. We stayed an extra day in the hospital because of Azia’s heart and because she wasn’t eating well (they blamed it on trauma from the birth, but we found out at 4 months that she was actually tongue-tied so she had trouble sucking properly). After almost 4 days in the hospital we were allowed to take our baby home. The day after we brought her home we had a visit to the Cardiologist scheduled at BC Children’s Hospital. They did ECGs and Ultrasounds on her heart and gave us a diagnosis us that shocked and alarmed us. Our baby had a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) - a hole in her heart. The size of it was large enough that she may need surgery but small enough that they wanted to wait and see if it healed or how it affected her. We drove home that day crying…wondering if our little baby girl who we had waited so long for would be ok.

It has been a while….Azia is 7 months old!
Well it has been a while! Our little girl is growing up much too fast. In a few days she will be 7 months old and she has changed SO much! She is rolling both ways and is working on getting up onto her knees. She sits on her own and plays with her toys. She has been eating solid foods like a champ for a few months now and has graduated to some cooked diced veggies and soft fruit as well as the standard baby cookies and cheerios. She LOVES food! She babbles like she is talking and is very happy and smiley. She laughs a lot. Her favourite toy is still “Lamby” but she loves the exersaucer and Jolly Jumper. She has just started taking steps if you hold onto her hands and she stands for long periods up to furniture. She LOVES the dog and they play tug-of-war with his toys. It is really cute! She holds her own bottle and cookies and can ALMOST get the cheerios, etc that she picks up into her mouth. It won’t be long! She is a true nature baby…LOVES being outside sitting on the grass and feeling the wind in her hair.
There is 6 1/2 weeks left until her surgery which we are both awaiting and dreading. We know God will keep her safe and she will be fine but it is still scary! Just keep her in your prayers please everyone! Surgery is October 5th and she will be in the hospital about 4 days.
Here are some pics of her since the last ones I posted:
Here are some pics from last week!
